Come to me - From the Desk of Erin

Do you have a scripture that you come back to again and again and it keeps speaking to you ? I do, and it is Matthew 11:28-32 "Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." All we have to do is simply come, and He will give us rest! That's an amazing offer! When we come to Him, He is with us, and will give us rest. So simple: "come!"

"Take my yoke on you and learn from me..."

I read somewhere recently that His yoke could be considered His teachings. If you followed a rabbi's teachings you were taking his yoke. He is with us and teaches us. What happens in life is not so much His doing per se but the result of a myriad choices made by many people, but He is with us and will give us the means to be able to face what comes and to deal with it. He is our "constant in the chaos." He is our rabbi, our teacher, our guide and He will lead us through this life if we will follow. The answers to why things happen are often not clear as we heard from Chris last Sunday, but we need to trust Him.

I get weary and heavily burdened sometimes by trying to take on life by myself; in my own strength, instead of coming to Him first and finding rest, then moving on in His strength.

Coming to the Lord reminds me of a child who is feeling sad and seeks out the open arms of a parent who is waiting for them, down at their level. They enclose the child in a hug where the child feels safe to "let go," to stop resisting and trying to do it all on their own. They come to their parent for reassurance and help, to rest in their arms and know that they are loved and everything is alright.
And we have such a Heavenly Father ❤️ who loves us.

He goes on to say " for I am gentle and humble in spirit and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
He will not lay anything on us too heavy to bear, plus He bears it with us.

I hope you feel encouraged to come to Him and trust Him in these trying times.
