How can we pray for you?

"The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with." - James 5:16 (MSG)

We have a team of people who regularly pray for our Gateway community, city & nation. If you would like prayer, please submit your prayer request below and someone will be praying for you this week!

If you would like to talk to our Pastoral Team, phone 021 318 663.

"O come let us adore Him…"

What are the limitations of prayer? How far do its benefits and possibilities reach? What part of God’s dealing with man, and with man’s world, is unaffected by prayer? The answer to these questions will gauge the effort and possibly the results of our praying. The answer will greatly enhance the value of prayer or will greatly decrease it.

Read the following poem reflecting on it in the light of persistence in prayer.

“Two frogs fell into a can of cream,
Or so it has been told.
The sides of the can were shiny and steep,
The cream was deep and cold.

‘Oh, what’s the use,’ said number one,
‘It’s plain no help’s around. ‘Goodbye, my friend, goodbye sad world’
And weeping still he drowned.
But number two of sterner stuff,
Dog paddled in surprise.
The while he licked his creamy lips
And blinked his creamy eyes.
‘I’ll swim at least a while, ‘he thought,
Or so it has been said,
It really wouldn’t help the world
If one more frog was dead.
An hour or more he kicked and swam,
Not once he stopped to mutter.
Then hopped out from the island he had made,
Of freshly, churned, butter.

The lesson the second frog teaches us about prayer is the importance of perseverance and persistence!

Gals.6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

We must pray for the seemingly impossible, never limiting God’s ability or minimizing the effectiveness of our prayer.

Prayer can change absolutely anything, the impossible doesn’t exist but His kingdom will only rule on earth where it is invited

If prayer gets squeezed out by the business of our day, maybe it’s time to reprioritise.

Even during the summer break, let’s make a choice to stop and draw aside, to come with grateful hearts in prayer and thanksgiving. Let’s continue to invite Him into every situation and circumstance of our lives and those within our sphere of influence.

Where impossibilities appear to rule and situations seem hopeless, where the waiting has been long and faith is fading, remember the second little frog and be persistent and persevere -  as you continue to pray.

Do you want to pray for Gateway but don’t know what to pray?

During This Advent/Christmas season consider praying this simple prayer:

‘Emmanuel, Jesus Christ, desire of every nation, Saviour of all peoples, come and dwell among us here.’ Amen

Prayer Book Recommendations

Prayer is our spiritual life breath. May it become a delight and never a chore, a joy and never drudgery and may we find ourselves gradually being transformed more and more into His likeness as we spend time in the quiet place of His presence.
