Urban

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. - Jesus.

We want to follow Jesus’ teaching by feeding the poor, serving those less fortunate than ourselves, and pursuing justice for the oppressed.

Gateway has many people throughout the community bringing change to those around them. A lot of what is done is unseen, it’s done in secret, it’s done with no recognition or reward, it is done because Jesus wants it done.

We believe that through serving people can be made whole, people can change, people can be transformed, hope can be restored.

Te tangata te tangata te tangata. (It is people, it is people, it is people)

STREETWORKS

Check out their website

Streetworks is a Hamilton-based community initiative which runs a variety of projects that serve the needs of the wider community. Our vision is to create a culture where faith is coupled with deeds. Streetworks is a mind frame of serving that we would love to see people catch and build into their lives. In a nutshell, we run weekend events with approximately 15-20 projects being completed by 150 volunteers at each event. Streetworks events take place on a Saturday and include time for worship and feedback as well as working on projects. We work in close contact with community organisations in Hamilton to understand the needs of the different communities those organisations operate in, and to explore ways in which Streetworks might fulfil their needs. We aim to balance practical projects with projects aimed at blessing the organisations thatwork daily in the community.

ARE YOU A LANDSCAPER?
Streetworks has an amazing opportunity for a landscaper, or someone with landscaping experience, to get involved in our Backyard Blitz Project this November!! If you fit this description and are keen for a bit of a challenge then we’d love to hear from you, contact claire@streetworks.org.nz or 07 9598003

FIREWOOD STORAGE
Streetworks is looking for an empty yard or section within city boundaries to stockpile firewood! We have a source which can consistently supply us with firewood so long as we have a place to store it! We want to start stockpiling firewood to chop and give away for next winter.  The next firewood chop is on November 6.  If you want to get involved or if you have ideas for a storage area contact Colin - firewood@streetworks.org.nz
