Urban
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. – Jesus.
We want to follow Jesus’ teaching by feeding the poor, serving those less fortunate than ourselves, and pursuing justice for the oppressed.
Gateway has many people throughout the community bringing change to those around them. A lot of what is done is unseen, it’s done in secret, it’s done with no recognition or reward, it is done because Jesus wants it done.
We believe that through serving people can be made whole, people can change, people can be transformed, hope can be restored.
Te tangata te tangata te tangata. (It is people, it is people, it is people)
STREETWORKS
Streetworks is a Hamilton-based community initiative which runs a variety of projects that serve the needs of the wider community. Our vision is to create a culture where faith is coupled with deeds. Streetworks is a mind frame of serving that we would love to see people catch and build into their lives. In a nutshell, we run weekend events with approximately 15-20 projects being completed by 150 volunteers at each event. Streetworks events take place on a Saturday and include time for worship and feedback as well as working on projects. We work in close contact with community organisations in Hamilton to understand the needs of the different communities those organisations operate in, and to explore ways in which Streetworks might fulfil their needs. We aim to balance practical projects with projects aimed at blessing the organisations thatwork daily in the community.
